Race Permit and BikeReg Assistance

Since we’re race promoters also we have dealt with the stuff that you have to do before you can even think about closing pre-reg. This involves filling out USAC paperwork as well as navigating the BikeReg.com site. We can help you do that. USAC is basically a requirement so you can get insurance, officials, and get on the main race calendar. BikeReg is the best place to generate interest in your race as well as appeal to the largest number of racers possible. We can make recommendations on how to set up the categories, when to close pre-reg, what extras and such you want to get. We are committed to making your race a success. Our goal is to grow bike racing in the area, not to “beat” other promoters. We want to help you hold a well run and fun race, which in turn will help make the sport more enjoyable and more...

Finish Line Camera Services

Like all promoters we have to worry about results. We invested in a high speed camera to best capture finish line results. With our camera we are good for all daytime finish situations. We have two additional cameras as back up. We strive to get the results up as quick as possible, often in 5-10 minutes after a race finish. In one race the volunteer posted handwritten results done by the officials. We weren’t doing the camera but as part of registration we were posting the results near the registration table. Before posting the handwritten results, which just had bib numbers, the volunteer would hand us a copy of said results. He would return a minute or so later and the full version of the results that we prepared, listing the place, name, team, and bib number, would be ready for him to post. He joked about the futility of posting the bib number results since he would walk back to our table, pick up the complete results, then walk back and post the complete results below the bib number results. Our finish line equipment includes a professional tripod, camera, water proof casing for the camera (if necessary), table, chair, and a laptop dedicated to viewing the finish line footage. We can then import the number results into our registration spreadsheet, generating a complete results list quickly and efficiently. We have a tent for the finish camera, with appropriate anchors for any grass/dirt areas. For pavement we anchor the tent to vehicles. Optionally we may use a trailer as we normally do at the Bethel Spring Series (in the...

Registration Services

Our core service is our registration system. We have honed our system to fit our needs as a race promoter and that means you can benefit from that work. Our registration system simplifies your life in many ways. Pre-registered racers entered, bib numbers assigned (if desired). You know what you’re dealing with before any Day of Race registrants. Racers highlighted for various reasons – a minor (needs a parental signature on release), owes money, owed money, special requests (on the part of the promoter or rider). This can help the promoter in many ways. Automated check on license status. No suspended or iffy licenses. Consistent team names, if desired/requested by a team. This helps the teams look more professional. Start lists available quickly. We can hand out multiple start lists to officials, announcers, mobile officials, etc. Day of race services. Although additional work this can help balance the checkbook at the end of the day. We can handle racers who show up late. If they want to race they can, and it helps the promoter make the race more popular. We follow the rules. We can be the bad guy. We don’t need access to your BikeReg account. Simply download files per our specifications and we can handle the rest. Protect your race’s financial privacy. Our system, which is computerized, has been undergoing running updates since the very first time we used it in about 2000. We have been working with BikeReg since basically they started so we know how to use the system. We have an IT background so we know the importance of backups. We arrive with two...

Tactical Coaching

In an interview with VeloNews Tim Johnson, a respected US pro racer, talked about the fact that racing isn’t just about being fit. If it was then we’d just race time trials and hill climbs. There’s a reason why we have mass start races – it introduces the idea of tactics into bike racing. Suddenly it’s not about your FTP or your max 5 min power or your watts/kilogram ratio. That stuff helps, of course. On the other hand I’m sure you know of racers that have really good numbers yet may not get appropriate results. You may be one of them. Physical fitness constitutes just one aspect of mass bicycle racing. It’s critical in time trials, in any climbing situation, and in events that last longer than a rider’s endurance. However, once a rider has enough endurance to finish a mass start race then suddenly a number of other factors enters into the equation. As a not-so-gifted racer I’ve had to overcome a low FTP when racing. My FTP hovers in the 210-220w range. My weight typically sits between 75 and 80 kg. This ratio precludes me from climbing with the climbers, and the low wattage makes me a poor time trialer. On the other hand, with my weight down to about 72 kg, I managed to earn enough points to upgrade to Cat 2. Not only could I do well in races, I could even make moves during the races. I can help you make a monumental leap in your bike racing by teaching you some of the basics of racing. The coaching comes in two flavors,...
