bethel spring series

Our grand prize raffle winners are:
John Idone for the TOPOLINO wheelset
Donald Chickering for the CANNONDALE frameset
Congratulations to both lucky winners!

We also drew for other smaller prizes but honestly I forgot most of the names, so to be fair, I won't name any at all.

Some mention should go to the following racers (all these are my personal observations and are not "official" in any way):
- Rich Foley (Laurel), for his tenacious fight against an overwhelming Bethel Cycle team in the M40 race.
- Matt Crane (Kissena), the only racer to recover from a fall (without a free lap!) to win his race. I'm talking "ever" - no one's done that in 10 years at Bethel.
- Hermaen Walker (Moneygram), for the strongest attack followed by an immediate withdrawn, all while being in the best spirits possible.
- Walker again for being the most joyous racer when winning something. His enthusiasm, happily, is contagious.
- John Funk (Ridgefield Bank) for being the most aggressive racer in the M40 race.
- Andrew Lobsenz (Bethel Cycle) for being the most aggressive racer in the Cat 5 race.
- Myron Baker (Verge) for being upgraded in the middle of the Series and still helping pull the final week's break to the line.
- Stephen Badger (Remax) for his comeback by taking an overall place without having scored points before the last week.

The people who made the 2002 Spring Series successful include (in no particular order):
- The town of Bethel, CT and the tenants of the Francis J. Clarke Industrial Park for allowing us use of the course
- Greg Pelican and the Bethel Cycle pro bicycle shop for his sponsorship and support
- The Danbury Police Explorers, for their marshalling work
- Ben Himes of FCI, for allowing us use of FCI's property
- Mike and Meg Conlan, USCF officials
- Cannondale Corp, for their contribution of the frameset
- Topolino, for their contribution of a wheelset
- Crown Trophy of Brookfield, CT, for accomodating a very distracted race organizer
- Alex for his registration, set up, and break down work
- Matt for his registration work without even racing a single race
- The various Bethel Cycle team riders who helped set up and break down the race venue, with a special thanks to Tom Bronson for working above and beyond on one particular day

- Finally, to the racers and their families that made it all possible. Without you, there would be no Series.

Thank you all for a wonderful Series and we'll see you next year!

Note: I have some nice gloves, a yellow jacket, a tire, and some other miscellaneous items from this year. Please email me if you think they belong to you.

P.S. We are here to help all race promoters and bicycle racers to the best of our abilities. Please contact me for sources for: numbers; pins; trophies; to use equipment like leafblowers, brooms, cones, stop/slow signs, tents, tables, etc.; and for any questions that you might have that we might be able to answer (about racing or promoting). I hope to eventually publish more information directly on the web.
