With a lot of the big guns from last week's Cat 5 race in the first race, folks expected the pace to be high. But with some moderation in their efforts, the Navone boys didn't quite hit the hammer as hard. In the end they swept the field sprint, with Jefferson Lima (Navone Studios) winning the race. Gercy Barboza De Morass (Navone Studios) took second, with yet another Navone Studios racer Edinilson Da Silva getting third. Hans Morefield finished fourth, with Jacinto Pereira in fifth. Connecticut Coast Cycling's Gregory Jakubek took the last points spot in sixth.

Results pending based on protest period (okay, that's done). Final results posted.
The second Cat 5 race was marked with the standard attacks and chases, but on the last lap some individuals made significant efforts to try and break free of the race. The overall Leader, playing a smart race, waited about 6 or 8 riders back, and launched yet another field smashing sprint. He took the win and maintains his hold on the overall lead.
Cat 4 prelim results to be posted shortly.

Oh boy I got the scoop. So it looks like we had some super motivated Bethel guys going for the overall. Bill Muzzio (Bethel Cycle) went for a prime, dragging a couple guys with him. They stayed away for a few laps when a Pawling Cycle racer bridged up. Worried about the overall, and knowing Pawling was up there, Muzzio waited a bit and then attacked the break decisively.
Justin Harris (Bikeway) bridged hard, and the two set about working hard to consolidate their break. With Muzzio doing a lot of work at the end of the race, Harris played a Voight and finished a close and honorable second to the hard working Muzzio.
Bethel Cycle took the third podium spot with Denis Adiletti, followed by Darius Shekari (CRCA/TeaNY Cycling). Lee Davis (Pawling Cycle and Sports) took fifth, with David Bailey (Signature Cycles / Rockstar Games).

The women stayed together for the most part, with the race coming down to a huge drag race up the hill. Ann Marie Miller (CRCA Houlihan Lokey Sanchez) won the sprint, followed by her teammate and last week's winner (CRCA Houlihan Lokey Sanchez). Donna McMahon (CRCA/Radical Media) took third, making it a NYC sweep. Bridget Petrillo (CVC/Subaru of New England) restored honor for the New Englanders with fourth, followed, of course, by another New York City rider Ashley Prine (CRCA/Radical Media). Megan Kelly (Target Training), back in the New England side of things, took the last points spot in sixth place.

A recent-record number of riders showed up. Although the registrants numbered well into the hundreds, the field fell short of the century mark when they lined up. Nonetheless the field went to the race, with constant attacks and chases. Bethel Cycle kept control of the field for much of the race, but with two to go Williams Cycling went to the front with a four man train. At the bell though they'd faded, and CCC / IRS Medic and Bethel started ramping up the pace.
Evan Thomas (Bethel Cycle) made some moves to maintain position on a chaotic last lap and decisively won the field sprint. Bryan Haas (CCC/IRS Medic) took second, with Aki Sato (Expo/ Superior Energy) third. Coincidentally the riders were in the same order in the overall. Davy Habig (Luzzo's Coal Fired Pizza) took fourth, Timothy Collins (CRCA/Blue Ribbon-translations.com) fifth, and Zachary Staszak (Pawling Cycle and Sport) rounded out the points earning places.

An aggressive P123 kept the 60-odd racers strung out for much of the race. Towards the end Robert Sweeting (Team Globalbike) and Jeff Buckles (Richmond Pro Cycling) got clear along with Anthony Allessio (Zane's). With Sweeting pulling for the last 5 laps, Allessio got unhitched. Buckles took the win, followed by Sweeting in a very close second.
Okay, I'm really running out of time so I'll finish this at home. It's not much but there was a crash, again, in the field sprint, and a Bethel Spring Series friend Matt (Mister "Atom/Fusion Think") got carted away in an ambulance with a possible head injury.
Final bits. The sprint for third was all out with the aforementioned crash disrupting a lot of riders. Matt Baldwin (Target Training) made it to the line best of the rest in third, with long time Bethel Spring Series racer Filip Capala (Capala Brothers/Polska) next up in fourth. Mike McGinley (Zane's) took fifth, and Gregory Olsen (Jonathan Adler Racing) rounded out the top 6.
9 PM 3/21 - Update on friend Matt. Broken ribs, whiplash, and the standard road rash. Best wishes.
