I'm taking a guess at what happened. It was a sprint. Sam Rosenholtz (Green Line Velo) took yet another dominating sprint win. Jefferson Lima (Navone Studios) took second, with Michael Pugrab (Pedal Power) in third. Lorenzo Grippo (Tarmac Cycling) finished fourth, with Blaine Hurty (Unattached) in fifth. Grippo's teammate Hank Osborn (Tarmac Cycling) rounded out the points bearers in sixth.

No snow anymore but it's definitely cold out there.

Second Cat 5 race results forthcoming - they just finished.

Someone read the rulebook. Protest on the results filed, finishline camera verified it, results updated. Will post shortly.

Big field sprint for the 4s. It got a bit disorganized up there but Tarmac Cycling took the race reins and did a huge leadout on the last lap. Their sprinter Paul LeStage capped off some great teamwork with a fine win. Allan Rego (Unattached) took second, with Dennis Adiletti (Bethel Cycle) in third. Justin Harris (Bikeway) took fourth, with Tarmac Cycling's John DeBitetto taking fifth. Brian Kelly (Pawling Cycle and Sport).

So... where do I start? Maybe before the race, when a mellow Stephen Gray (IRSMedic.com/Berlin Bicycle/Best Cleaners) had to block out his rear derailleur after he snapped his derailleur cable. With just a 14T, and his normal 53x39, he was somewhat handicapped for the race. He did lose a few grams of weight - with no rear derailleur cable, and two pieces of housing gone, maybe 50 grams.

Nonetheless, understanding that a two speed bike works best with steady, predictable efforts, he did what would work best - he went off the front with one of his teammates Joe Regan. Steady worked well, and with Regan high up in the points, he took the win. Gray took a hard earned second place.

The field came in, led by John Funk (Cycle Fitness). Jim Escobar (The Simple Principles) took a strong second in the field, taking fourth in the race. John Raheb (Blue Ribbon - Translations) finished fifth, and Greg Pelican (Bethel Cycle) took a point for overall in sixth.

Story to follow, but you can guess that it was a field sprint.
...
With the dominant overall leader Evan Thomas (Bethel Cycle) absent, the onus fell on the next two riders in the overall to do well. Bryan Haas (IRSMedic/Berlin Bicycle/Best Cleaners) lined up with a strong contingency of teammates as did Aki Sato (Expo/Superior Energy). With both teams eager to control the field, betting on a field sprint for their respective riders, no one could get away.

IRSMedic had huge organization at the front, with riders everywhere. In the sprint though Sato got to the line first, with Haas in second. Andrew Nasca (Team Bikeway) followed Sato to get a close third. Haas's leadout men took the next two spots, with Chad Dalles and the irrepressible Stephen Gray taking fourth and fifth. Unattached racer Scott Neyer took the last points place in sixth.

Wowsers. With a huge tailwind on the backstretch, even small gaps became hard to close. When 17 or 18 riders went off the front and the gap didn't close for a few laps, it looked really dangerous. A few more riders made it across and then BAM the group was gone.

The field came dangerously close to lapping the 20 strong break.

Then...

I need to pack up the laptop so the story will continue shortly.

(pause)

Apparently a quartet of riders hopped away individually from the field. Like an Australian Pursuit, the last guy caught the next guy, they caught the next, and eventually they ended up off the front. With a lot of passengers in the group behind, the four stayed away.

Connor Sallee (CRCA/Echappe Equipment) took the win, with Anthony Allessio (Stage 1/FusionThink) in second. Christopher Fisher (Priority Health Cycling Team) finished third, with Yale's Jacob Hacker fourth. Out of the group behind a very aero equipped Gregory Olsen (Jonathan Adler Racing) won the field sprint, with Mike McGinley taking an all important point in sixth.
