Pro 123 Race Report - Cat 3/4 Race Report - Another large field lined up on this sunny but windy day. 85 riders took the starting whistle and within a few laps got down to business. With the field strung out and a virtual hurricane on the backstretch, gaps would appear at the front with alarming regularity. Most breaks, even working hard, never got more than a few seconds clear. Finally, a group formed off the front. Bethel Cycle Sport, with a rider William Keith up there, suddenly turned off the power and the break started drifting up the road. A number of riders tried to chase or bridge but to no avail. In the end, Junior standout Konrad Lebas (CCB/Volkswagen) took a well earned victory. In contrast to his typical self described "sit in and wait for the sprint" strategy, he made the break and won from it. Craig Kennedy (EBCC) took a strong second, with Daniel Greenfield third. Marc Risigo (Stage One Cycling) took fourth, with Joseph Regan taking fifth. John Interlandi (Ridgefield Bank) took the last points position for sixth. M40+ Race Report - The race got off to a fast start when a number of Juniors attacked early. With 30+ mph gusts, conditions were ripe for a break. A sprint for an early prime fragmented the front of the field, with attentive breakaway-types lurking just behind. Sure enough a number of riders gapped the field, led by a Junior, William "Casey" King (Cafeteros), Charles Quackenbush (CBRC) and Stephen Gray (Bethel Cycle). Rocketing out of the field, Morgan Stebbins (Bethel Cycle) bridged quickly to the group. Some piddling around kept the break within shouting distance of the field. The only one to take advantage of this was Joe Pantalone (Ridgefield Bank) who made a strong move to bridge to the break. The break melded together and set to work with much less infighting. At about 4 laps to go, they overtook the field. Mixed in with the field, Stebbins took the win from teammate Gray, followed closely by King. Quackenbush finished in fourth and Pantalone finished fifth. Renowned speedskate builder Paul Marchese (GMBC) was clearly the first of the field and took 6th spot.
