Pro 123 Race Report -
The wind played a large role in the final race of the day.
Chris Peck (Wheelworks) ventured out on his own, caught by Andy Ruiz (GMBC) and
Curt Davis (Wheelworks), both of whom spent the chase leaping from one group to another.
Ruiz came off while under pressure from the two Wheelworks teammates, eventually being
caught by the small group chasing them. Davis and Peck went to lap the field twice
in an incredible show of strength. Mike Norton (Somerset) broke free to do a
very lonely ride in winds gusting to 30 mph. He eventually finished 3rd, soloing in
front of a chase group. The small group (about 7) sprinted over the line, with
Charles Whalen (Sleepy Hollow) finishing off with a good sprint, followed by
Stephen Badger (ReMax) and Andy Ruiz (GMBC). An honorable mention to
Anthony Allessio (Laurel), who last year won the Cat 5 (!) series overall.
He attacked the main field and rode on his own until two laps to go.
Caught by Scott Wilson (dfl), the two traded pulls for until the sprint.
Allessio demonstrated his sprinting skills once again in Bethel, only this time in a much higher caliber race.
Cat 3/4 Race Report -
Extremely gusty winds determined the race as rider after rider tried to take advantage of a general lack of motivation for pulling into the wind. Speeds would dip into the teens in the gusty backstretch, and the field strung out single file during the tailwind front stretch. Eventually, a group of 6 including David Ebeling (Hudson Valley, last year's Cat 3/4 winner overall), Matt Zacone (Unattached), Derek Walsh (Capital Bicycle), John Husk (Unattached), Ian Beilby (Capital Bicycle), and Salvatore Abbruzzese (Moneygram), broke clear, eeking out a 25 second gap. Although it varied, the gap stayed constant till the finish. Brian Haas (Ridgefield Bank) and Brian Wolf (Les Cyclistes) broke clear with a couple laps to go, chasing in vain. Haas went clear of Wolf, who sat up on the last lap and softpedalled in just in front of the sprinting pack. Aki Sato (New Canaan) crossed the line in front of Vincent Citron (Moneygram), the winner of the previous week.
Cat 4 Race Report -
This week, there was no crash to cancel the race. Thankfully, the rider who fell last week is doing okay (relatively speaking) with a broken collarbone. We are wishing you a speedy recovery! John McDade finished off a nice race with a victory.
M40+ Race Report -
For approximately 10 laps the field was checking out the wind and waiting for THE break. Finally John Funk (GMBC) launched a viscious attack, marked by Greg Pelican (Zephyr), last year's overall winner. Pelican grimly hung on to Funk's wheel, unable to pull through initially. Considering the extremely gusty wind, Funk was flying, not significantly slowing up the hill. After a lap and a half Funk finally took it down a notch. A chase group led by Morgan Stebbens (CTS) bridged up and counter attacked. Funk was able to react while Pelican had to go back to the field to regroup. Stebbens outsprinted Funk for the victory while John Whalen (Sleepy Hollow) rolled in off the front of the field in third spot. Pelican won the field sprint for fourth spot.

You can do it anonymously. I will combine multiple ones. Thanks, Aki.
